Frequently Asked Questions
I have created a Question and Answer section. If your
question is not answered here, please e-mail me, call
me at 623-546-7280 or ask me after school.
Can I volunteer in my child's class?
Yes, as long as you have filled out our school's volunteer packet
and have received your clearance card. Once approved, you
can look for our volunteer calendar to come home with dates and times when
we are needing some extra help in our classroom. Your help is very much
appreciated, as long as your child's behavior is not affected by your presence.
We will begin our volunteer program in September. The month of August will allow our
students the time to get familiar with our school rules, classroom routines
and become comfortable with us.
How else can I help at school?
You can sign up to help behind the scenes. There are many projects that require cutting and stapling items together to prep them for a class project. These items can be done in your home.
Some projects will need to be assembled in class.
There will be opportunities to practice skills with small groups of students.
There will also be culminating events and fun classroom celebrations during each quarter that we will need help with.
Do I have to attend Parent Teacher Conferences?
Yes, here at PEC we have 4 face to face Parent-Teacher Conferences per
year. During that time we create an ILP, (individual learning
plan) for your child, in which you will be apart of and sign for.
If we go on vacation during school time, does my child need to get work?3
No, practice work will be sent home when you return and graded work
will be completed in class soon after your child's return.
Does my child need a snack or water bottle at school?
Yes please! Each day your child needs to bring a labeled water bottle filled only with water.
It is so hot here in Arizona, it's important to stay hydrated.
Please do not send juices in these bottles. Many spills occur throughout the day
with movement to and from recesses, snack times and Specials. We want to keep
our classroom clean and safe.
They will also need a healthy dry snack for the afternoon's snack time.
Teachers do not provide snacks. Please only send items that your child can
enjoy within a short period of time and clean up by themselves.
A few suggestions for snacks are; crackers, granola bar, an apple, grapes, chips,
carrot sticks or favorite dry cereal.
What are the school hours?
School begins at 8:00 a.m. However students are allowed into the classroom as early as
7:30 a.m. Attendance is sent to the office at 8:00 a.m. If you are running late, you need to drop by the office to get a tardy pass which is given to the myself or Mrs. Tichy at the door.
Class is dismissed at 2:50 p.m. Students are released one at a time to a parent or an approved individual. Please do not crowd the door, as it scares small children and does not allow them to see their parent. Exceptions for dismissal times are noted on my newsletter, webpage, the PEC website, your child's student handbook and your child's daily Take Home Folder calendar.
What should my child bring each day?
A backpack, lunch box, snack and water bottle all clearly labeled with your child's name.
If lunch money is due, please stop by the office to arrange payment.
How can I contact Ms. Monico after school?
Call me at 623-546-7280, I am often in my classroom until 4:00 or 4:30pm or e-mail me at [email protected]
How do I know how my child is doing on a daily basis?
Your child will be taking home a daily "Take Home Folder".
In their folder will be a behavior calendar. I will be using this calendar to communicate
their daily behavior to you.
Green - means "I made great choices today".
Yellow - means "I needed a few warnings to get back on track".
Orange - means "I needed several more reminders to control myself".
Red - means "After several reminders and incidents, I continued to make poor choices".
(There will be notes and/or a phone call regarding this behavior.)
